A graduate of Central Washington University, Bachelors of Science in Occupational Safety and Health (1987). Brian started his safety career in the insurance industry working for a large lines/multi-lines insurance carrier. Brian was recognized as the “Youngest Senior Loss Control Representative in the Corporation’s history.” After 7 years in the insurance industry, he was hired as the Corporate Safety Director for a General Contractor/Construction Manager based in Portland OR where he stayed for 17 years. In 2011, Clarke went fulltime in his safety consulting business G.E.W.llc. In 2016, Clarke partnered with longtime friend James Boretti and established HEILL Safety Solutions.

Brian is active with the Industry Advisory Conical for Central Washington University’s Safety Health Management Program. Brian and his wife Betsy established the “Brian and Elizabeth Clarke, ASSP Student Section Endowment at CWU” for the promotion and educational expenses of the student section and advisor.

Brian is a founding/current Board member for the Construction Industry Crime Prevention Program. He has worked in conjunction with fellow safety professionals to establish the Oregon Construction Safety Summit, a monthly forum covering a variety of construction safety issues.

Brian has been a presenter at various PDC’s across the USA and Western Canada. Brian has published various safety-related articles.

Brian was awarded the Gary Bird Horizon Award by the International Risk Management Institute in November 2003 for “Excellence in Innovative Risk Management Techniques and Processes in the Construction Industry”.

In 2001, Brian was awarded the “Safety Professional of the Year” award from the ASSP Columbia Willamette Chapter.

In addition, Brian has taught Safety Standards and Law classes for Mt. Hood Community College’s Environmental/Safety Program as well as guest spoke at various universities throughout Washington and Oregon.

Brian is actively involved with the American Society of Safety Professionals. He served on the Board of Directors for 4 years (1999 – 2003) as well as various chapter and ROC positions in Sacramento and Portland.

Clarke lives in View, Washington with his wife Betsy and their two kids (Michael and Katie) on their farm raising Miniature Scottish Highlander cattle, honey bees, and goats. Clarke raises knot free timber on his tree farm where he has experimented with Clark County Extensions Services (WSU) in using goats to control non-native weeds and underbrush.

With over 33 years of experience, James has an extensive background in the field of Occupational Safety & Health. James is President of Boretti, Inc., a professional Safety, Health & Environmental firm providing a broad range of technical and business safety solutions. He has successfully consulted with an array of clients and industries, including healthcare, manufacturing, television, construction, and agricultural environments. His efforts have resulted in measurable, improved operational efficiency and productivity, lowered insurance rates, reduced claims frequency, and OSHA compliance.

James is a frequent speaker for clients and professional organizations such as the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), and has taught safety courses for the University of California, Irvine, in ergonomics and sustainability/social compliance. James is well versed in the International Organization for Standardization and other non-governmental voluntary and marketplace certifications for safety, environmental, and sustainable operations.
